University of New Mexico assistant men’s basketball coach Brandon Mason, who was arrested for aggravated DWI early Saturday morning, resigned on Wednesday.
Early Wednesday evening, the UNM athletics department released the following statement:
“This afternoon, the UNM Athletic Department received and accepted a letter of resignation from assistant basketball coach Brandon Mason.”
The release didn’t give details, but added the following statement from Lobo athletic director Eddie Nunez:
“We want to thank Coach Mason for everything he has done for Lobo basketball and for this department throughout his time here. I wish Coach Mason and his family the best in their future endeavors.”
The news release made no mention of Mason’s arrest, or the numerous off-the-court issues the Lobo men’s basketball program has had in recent months.
