ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (September 12, 2019) – Blake Cannon of Mesa, Ariz., captured the annual New Mexico Open by two shots on Thursday at the Paradise Hills Golf Course.

Cannon, who played college golf at Colorado State, followed up his course record-tying 62 with a final-round 67 to finish the 54-hole event at 13 under.

Mark Baldwin, also of Mesa, Ariz., and 36-hole leader Edward Olson
from Aptos, Calif., were at 11 under.

Cannon won $14,000 for the event.

Cannon and Olson were tied up going into the final hole of the tournament, with both players hitting the middle of the fairway. Cannon was first to play and hit an amazing shot to within a foot for birdie to put the pressure onWindsor
Olson.

Olson hit his approach to the back of the green and, knowing he needed to make the putt, proceeded to run his birdie attempt a few feet by and ended up making bogey to tie for second.

Cannon tapped in his birdie for the title.

Defending Champion Sam Saunders of Albuquerque, N.M., capped off a solid week of play with a final-round 67 and finished four back in a tie for sixth, along with Rio Rancho’s Tim Madigan.

Albuquerque’s David Muttitt was the next highest New Mexicans, finishing tied for 11th at 8 under.
