Three players from outside of New Mexico are tied for the lead after Tuesday’s opening round of the 54-hole New Mexico Open golf championship.
Brandon Bauman of Las Vegas, Nev., Edward Olson of Aptos, Calif., and Andrew Presley of Fort Worth, Texas, all shot 5-under-par 65s at the Paradise Hills Golf Course in Albuquerque for the best rounds of the day.
Six others are tied for fourth at 66.
Former champion Wil Collins of Albuquerque is the top player from the state. He shot 67 and is tied for 10th.
There will be a cut to the top 50 players after today’s second round in teh 154-player field. The final round set for Thursday. The total purse is $80,000 with a top prize of $14,000.
